Permissions, limits and errors

Read-only connections. When you approve a connection, Zoninga's consent screen has a "Read-only access" box. Tick it and that connection can only use Read tools: the others don't appear in its tool list, and calling one anyway returns a forbidden error. Your profile shows whether each connected assistant has read-only or full access. To change it, disconnect and connect again.

Every call is scoped to you. A tool only ever sees the signed-in user's own data. The family tools that show a relative's accounts read only what that person chose to share with you, view-only.

Side effects stay inside Zoninga. Write and Sensitive tools change Zoninga's own records. None of them moves money or touches a bank account. A deleted transaction can be restored for 7 days. A transaction dated more than 30 days ahead is refused with requires_confirmation: "future_date" until the call is repeated with confirm_future=true, which catches a mistyped year.

Errors. A tool that can't do what was asked returns {"error": "...", "error_type": "..."} with isError set. The error_type is validation for bad input (the message says what to fix), not_found when the record doesn't exist or isn't yours, forbidden when the connection is read-only or the action needs permission you don't have, external when the payment provider refused, and internal for our own failures. Any other refusal, such as reaching a plan limit, comes back as error with a plain-language message.

Rate limits. Connections get 200 tool calls an hour on Premium. Past that, the endpoint answers HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header and a retry_after_seconds field, so an assistant knows how long to wait.

Sign-in. OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration. Access tokens last 15 minutes and refresh tokens 7 days, rotating on every use. No API keys, and your password never reaches the assistant.

Other connectors exist. Era, for example, announced itself as the first personal-finance connector in Anthropic's directory in May 2026. Zoninga's bet is different: a full finance app underneath (170+ tools, a real debt engine, an always-on watchdog agent) rather than a connector alone. Compare for yourself.

Questions people ask before connecting

Can Claude or ChatGPT move my money through Zoninga?

No. Zoninga never moves money, and there is no code path that can. Your assistant can read your picture and record bookkeeping with your confirmation; anything that would touch real dollars becomes a proposal you approve, and you execute transfers yourself at your own bank.

Is it safe to let an AI see my finances?

The connection uses OAuth 2.1. Your assistant never sees your password, and you can revoke its access instantly from your profile. Connecting requires a verified email and two-factor authentication, assistants work through purpose-built tools with audit logging (never raw database access), and security scans run on every release.

Does it work with both Claude and ChatGPT?

Yes, and any other MCP-compatible client. There are step-by-step guides for Claude and ChatGPT. Meta Muse only offers connectors from its own directory, and Zoninga's listing is under review, so Muse can't connect yet.

What can I ask once connected?

Anything your data can answer: “how much did we spend on groceries last month?”, “which debt should I pay first and what does it save?”, “what happens to my cash flow if I finance a car?”, “log $60 for gas and put it in Transportation.” The full tool catalog above is the honest inventory.

Do I need a paid plan?

AI connections are a Zoninga Premium feature, included free in every new account's 14-day trial. Your assistant side has its own requirements: Claude connectors need a paid Claude plan, and ChatGPT connectors are available on Pro, Team, Enterprise, and Edu.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants use external tools over a secure connection. Zoninga ships a remote MCP server, which is why the same connection works across Claude, ChatGPT, and any other MCP client, with OAuth 2.1 and dynamic client registration.

No account? Your assistant can still use the math

Any AI agent can call Zoninga's debt and loan math with no account and no key at https://zoninga.com/mcp/public. Six tools: compare payoff strategies, plan a payoff, solve or amortize a loan, check whether a balance covers upcoming bills, and project a savings goal. Nothing is stored. It runs the same engine as the free calculator, so the numbers match. For real balances, connect the full server below.

Support tickets from your assistant

Four tools reach Zoninga's own support desk, the same one behind the Support page in the app. Nothing goes to a third party. Your assistant can open a ticket with a subject, the details and a category (bug, feature, billing, account or other). It can list your tickets, read a ticket's full conversation, and add a reply. A reply to a closed ticket reopens it. Each tool sees only your own tickets, and when our team answers you get a notification in Zoninga. Priority and assignment are set by our staff, so your assistant can't change them.

Meta Muse

  1. Zoninga is submitted to Muse’s connector directory and waiting on Meta’s review.
  2. Once listed, open Settings → Connectors in Muse, choose Zoninga, and approve the sign-in on Zoninga. Same OAuth connection as Claude and ChatGPT: no password is shared with Muse.
  3. Until then, Muse cannot connect: it only offers connectors from its directory and has no way to add a server URL.

Please don’t store your Zoninga password in Muse’s credentials store to work around this. Zoninga sign-in needs two-factor authentication, and the directory connector will never need your password.

Using another assistant? Any MCP-compatible client works. The server speaks standard MCP over HTTP with OAuth 2.1 and dynamic client registration.
